Impress Santa this Christmas with the perfectly written letter

You want the world's biggest, the best, the most expensive, the most lavish Christmas gift ever?!

Then you need to work for it.
You have to impress 'the man' with your impeccable copywriting skills.

Here's your step-by-step copywriter's guide to creating the perfect persuasive pitch - a festive masterpiece.

Know your audience

Father Christmas isn’t your average reader.

He’s kind, jolly, and generous, but he’s also busy—sorting presents, checking lists (twice), and feeding those reindeer.

Keep it brief and cheerful.

Start with a friendly, warm salutation

"Dear Father Christmas" is pretty good.

Avoid "Yo Santa" unless you’re looking to receive a ropey old pair of socks

Grab attention early

Your opening line should set the tone.

Say something empathetically warm and memorable:

How about -

"I hope you’re keeping warm up at the North Pole!"

This shows how nice, friendly and thoughtful you are -

how deserving you are of a big, fat, expensive Christmas present.

Be specific and visual

Don’t just ask for “a toy car” or “something nice.”

Be specific to help Santa and his elves get it right.

For example:

"I’d love the shiny red remote-control car with the racing stripes that I saw in the toy shop last week."

Oh ... and don't forget to say 'please'

Paint a picture - Santa loves clarity.

Sell yourself

Why should Santa choose you over millions of others?

Add a sprinkle of self-promotion -

"I’ve been very good this year.

I've learned to put the loo seat down.

I've taken the bins out twice."

Show clearly that you deserve to be on Santa's 'nice' list.

Use a clear and compelling Call To Action

Like any good copy, end with a clear ask.

Don’t just trail off with “That’s all.”

Instead, inspire action: -

"Please let the elves know I’ll leave a mince pie and carrots out for you and the reindeer.

Merry Christmas, and I can’t wait to hear those sleigh bells!"

You get the idea!

Add a personal touch

Santa’s a sucker for heartfelt touches.

Include a festive doodle, a joke, or a little P.S.:

"P.S. Rudolph is my favourite reindeer. (Don’t tell the others!)"

Proofreed like a pro

Father Christmas is a right stickler for spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Check your letter carefully.

Good luck—and don’t forget the sherry and mince pies pie.
